STORMY K: On modern designs for added safety to interior occupants during a collision they've been replaced by flush interior light fittings. One will typically be located near to the interior rear view mirror and another (if fitted) at the rear of the roof lining.
Dome lights protruded causing a hazard and in a collision the light cover would often break off to expose the glass bulb and metal electrical contacts and switch parts. All of those represent added risks of severe cuts.
My 2015 model car has 2 dome lights and 4 reading lamps.
Dome lights went out with the original Batmobile, I think.
Mine is in the front of the car over the instrument panels, and that's where it is usually needed to most.
