Careers in aviation?

Personally, I like most people does not want to work and nothing really excites me. Aeronautics/Aviation seems decent though, bearable to say the least because everything else doesn't seem that good. I can't decide whether or not I would like to be a pilot of an aeronautical/astronautical engineer. Any tips

Personally, I like most people does not want to work and nothing really excites me. Aeronautics/Aviation seems decent though, bearable to say the least because everything else doesn't seem that good. I can't decide whether or not I would like to be a pilot of an aeronautical/astronautical engineer. Any tips to consider? I'm still in high school and am deciding between the two.

Also, is it true as a commercial airline pilot, you won't get to spend as much family time? I would not enjoy being a pilot if it takes time away from my family, or even out of my day.

Thank you

People who do not like to work have no future in aviation. It is an industry where people work hard and, for the most part, do their jobs to the best of their ability. There is no tolerance for laziness or incompetence. And, concerning being an airline pilot, the job comes before family. Most airline pilots spend about half of their time away from home. They work holidays, weekends, and often at odd hours of the night, especially when they are low in seniority. It's obviously not for you.

Except being "around airplanes" – engineer or pilot are completely different activities –
Nothing common at all –
Since you mention "family life", engineers are likely to do 9 to 5 office work –
Pilots work completely different and variable schedules –

For pilots – the time they spend at home with their family is generally equal to other people –
They might be away 3 or 4 days, but they get time off for several days too –
As a pilot, long haul international flights, I averaged 20 days work per month –
Not all 20 days of work were away from home –

I could be gone for 7 days, back home for 5 days, then gone again 7 days –
Then off at home for the rest of the month –

People who enjoy life as pilot HATE the "9 to 5" jobs –
We are different kind of people –
What I liked best about my job was travel – sadly too often same places…!

And as a pilot, I often worked as instructor for my airline –
That was classroom or simulator work – almost like a "9 to 5" job –
I was home every night for the periods I was an instructor –
Except that at times I started at 2pm and was in a simulator until 11pm…!

So… think twice before you decide –
You are in high school – so study math and physics subjects – only common subjects –
Good luck –

"I […] do not want to work and nothing really excites me".
Forget anything about aviation.
Go to the social services, apply for benefits, then rest on your sofa, watching TV, for the rest of your life.
You are a totally useless and parasite person.

Can't imagine ANY job that won't take time away from your family or time out of your day. If you work a 40 Hr. week, you will spend more of your waking hours at your job than with your family.
