Call the DMV and ask, like any reasonably logical and intelligent person would. This information can also be easily found on most DMV websites. One thing I can tell you for sure is that a certified letter from your insurance company showing no lapse in coverage will need to be submitted to the DMV.

Wait a minute, did you or did you not have your vehicle insured at the time of the incident? That's key. If you did your insurer should be able to provide proof that you did.
