I am riding amtrak for the first time to new orleans, can you bring a small cooler with beer and snacks ?

Other answer:

JOHN:
Yes for the cooler and the snacks, NO for the beer. But Out Of Sight Out Of Mind is the way to go with Amtrak I have brought beer several times on the train just don't blatantly drink your own beer in front of the conductor and bring beer that they sell onboard! They sell Bud Light cans bring those so u can just say you bought them on the train!
DON W:
Amtrak has no objection to your bringing your own refreshments, provided that you eat at your seat, rather than in the snack car or the dining car. A very small cooler that can fit in the overhead rack shouldn't be a problem, provided you can easily carry it along with your suitcase.

As for alcohol, you can only bring it if you have a private sleeping compartment reserved. This is from the Amtrak website:

You may bring aboard your own private stock of alcoholic beverages subject to the following limitations:

You may consume private stock alcoholic beverages only in Sleeping Car accommodations for which you have a valid ticket.

You may not consume private stock alcoholic beverages in any public areas.

Rona Lachat:
Snacks yes. Beer Only if you have a room. You could bring OTHER beverages.
