Is a land rover defender a good first car?

I'm thinking of getting a defender as my first car. the reason is that i really like the looks and also i heard that its a really reliable car, so will it be a good first car, everyday use, going to uni and stuff like this.
also if not then what other cars are good, i prefer an suv , offroader and these types

Regular Defenders are crude agricultural workhorses. Very noisy with a harsh ride and tiring to drive.

There is (was?) a V8 model which is essentially a Range Rover with a Defender body. It's far more refined and better to drive but you then get the shocking unreliability of a Range Rover.

If you live on a farm and do loads of off road driving then there's not much which will do as much as a Defender can. But if not get something else.

Skoda John:
In the UK insuring one as a first car is an issue.
They have a cramped cab.
As with any second hand car reliability is down to maintenance.
You need to drive a few to see how you like them.
They are a working truck.

No, a Defender is a tool/workhorse and not a comfortable daily driver.

its a car ..to a farmer ..its slow but reliable ..but suggest you go in a 100 mile drive in one before you buy one …think you will change your mind ..if my life depended on it I would get a Toyota land cruiser

No, it's a British POS that you cannot rely on.
