For a crew size of about 8-10 people what ranks would they occupy?
Nani: You would need a minimum of three deck officers: Master, Chief Mate, Second Mate.
You would need a Chief Engineer and either a less senior licensed engineer (First Assistant Engineer) or a QMED rating (Junior Engineer or Engineman)
You would need three unlicensed deck watchstanders (Bosun, Able Bodied Seaman & Ordinary Seaman)
Probably a Chief Cook
You also may have an additional crew member, either an Electrician (if carrying reefers), AB, OS, Deck Mechanic, Fitter, Oiler, Wiper, Third Mate, Cadet or Messman/Junior Cook (not likely with a crew of that size)
Ship Crew Ranks
The manning composition will be as stated on the ships minimum manning certificate which is issued by the flag state. For a ship the size of which you indicate Iwould expect the following :-
On the deck dept it will have the ships master and 3 watch keeping officers, i.e. Chief officer, 2nd officer and 3rd officer.
For the engineering dept :-
Chief Engineer, 2nd engineer, 3rd engineer and 4th engineer. If the ships fully classed UMS then there will be an added proviso that one engineer may be dispensed with.
An electrical officer is not a statutory requirement on any ship. On container ships the charter may call for the ships electrician to be responsible for refer boxes.
On Gas ships they carry an extra engineer as cargo officer. Passenger ships will have many more officers.
If the ships fully classed UMS then there will be an added proviso that one engineer may be dispensed with.
What is the minimum age required to operate a personal watercraft?
I often end up posting the same question on other sites
Master , Mate , Chief Engineer , 2nd engineer , Bosun , and five Hands .
