What qualifications do you need to be a hovercraft pilot? or is there just a course that needs to be taken?

Only courses. Get work on merit. Hovercrafts are noisy, ridiculous machines – one of the best examples in fact of how totally anti-environmental the so-called 'environmental' industry is!

Sailor:
For a passenger carrying commercial hovercraft it will be dependent on our locality and area of trade. When the UK ran commercial hovercraft between Ramsgate/Dower and France the officers were required to hold a certificate of competency as Master plus they had to complete onboard and shore side training on the type of hovercraft.

In other specialist craft such as the Boeing Jet foils in additions to your marine qualifications you had to obtain a Type rating Certificate from Boing.

A hovercraft is not considered an aircraft. Try the Boats & Boating forum instead.
