Where could I charter a normal sailboat?

For a long time now I've dreamed of sailing the Caribbean for a little while. My parents have saved up $18,000 ($1,000 a year) for both me and my brother to use for college. It looks like I won't be needing mine to pay for hardly any of it. And I may even make money out of going to college if I land work

It looks like I won't be needing mine to pay for hardly any of it. And I may even make money out of going to college if I land work study. So I would like to sped some or most of it on my dream sailing vacation. But all I can find for charter on the internet are expensive yacht charters. I don't really want my vacation to end in two or three weeks. I was hoping for it to last about 1 1/2 -2 months and still have some left over. I'm working on plans for budget living while I'm sailing but I need cheaper boats! Where can I charter just a normal sailboat.
To those people who think I'm blowing my money without talking to my parents. I got scholarships and do not need the money to go to school. My parents told me I could use it on whatever I want. They know i've always like the ocean and the idea of life on the sea so they told me they thought it was a good

They know i've always like the ocean and the idea of life on the sea so they told me they thought it was a good idea. I'm not doing this just to go around drinking in different countries either. Stop calling me a little spoiled brat. And ONLY ANSWER RELEVANT TO MY QUESTION.

As a parent if I'd saved money for you I'd rather you spent it on a dream than on something you hated – med school if you couldn't stand blood and wanted to be a chef, for instance. Not everything worthwhile comes from from sitting behind a desk listening to people lecture well-known facts – Darwin was on a long boat cruise, basically. I'd be kind of pissed if you blew the lot sitting on a beach drinking, though.
Can't help you with the charter. Do some more research.
stargate:
You might have to move to a spot in the Caribbean (up to the limit of your visit), spend as much time at marinas and charter companies, talk to anybody in boating. You may be able to find the answer; such as learning enough about boats to be a crew member and go from there.
Sailor:
If I had saved that much up for my children to go to college, I would be pretty much pissed off if the spoilt little brat blew it on a sailing holiday. A holiday that I may well have liked to take my wife and I on during the 18 years of saving.

As Ian K has quite rightly said you can buy a boat for a lot less. My Gandson has just bought a classic Alvin Vega for $4,500.00.

In the words of the immortal bard, "Grow up son and join the real world".

+++ to Sailor. Seeing as how you don't need the money, maybe it should be your parents who take a cruise??
Ian K:
Can pretty much buy a boat for that much…
