Will my KA survive a road trip around France?

I am considering a road trip around France this coming August. My car will have to drive from South Wales to Portsmouth or Dover and then from North France. I would be mostly staying in North West France visiting friends mostly and may head further down towards the South Coast.

It is KA 52 reg with 67,000 miles

I am considering a road trip around France this coming August. My car will have to drive from South Wales to Portsmouth or Dover and then from North France. I would be mostly staying in North West France visiting friends mostly and may head further down towards the South Coast.

It is KA 52 reg with 67,000 miles on the clock but it is quite rusted (as KA's tend to be). I was planning on selling the car before going back to university this summer but looking on auto trader they only tend to go for around 200 pound so i wouldnt be bothered about scrapping the car in france and flying home from the South.

Any suggestions?

Thankyou

You do know how far it is from NW France to the South Coast? All vehicles have a potential to breakdown but so long as you keep the oil and water topped up there no reason to say it will. So long as you don't expect to get to the south coast in a day you should be OK.

Apart from the triangle, hi-viz and spare bulbs you know also need to carry two French approved breathalyser kits.

Timbo is here is going over the top. As long as the car has been serviced regularly and there are no obvious faults it should be fine. If an oil change is due within six months do it now and use fully synthetic 5w-40. Tesco and Asda sell it cheaply yet it is to full spec. Check brake pad thickness, tyres and spare wheel. Take spare oil and water and a few simple tools. Bon voyage.

Hi sinead
it is expecting a lot of such an old car to be honest so the question most of us would ask is why has this little ford only done 67k miles as it sounds like it has hardly done any motoring.not been owed by a little old lady has it. shop runs and short distances as it would proably be fine if it has been regularly serviced. so it might find french motorways to be a bit grueling.
yes i do know having been there on a coach the whole main one down to spain. so take your time and give it a break when ever you can. it maybe a wonderful time. i do agree about the breakdown cover and if it is a recovery one they could bring you back with it.
Timbo is here:
Full engine and brake service needed if you want to be sure the car will make it. Check tyres too as they have to have enough tread to remain legal for the trip.
Make sure you have EU breakdown cover and then you will be able to cope with anything that happens to the car
Make sure you have the required spare bulb kit and high vis vests for all occupants

Who knows?
Get it into a garage for a check up and service and see what they say. Worth taking out breakdown cover that does the EU if you haven't already.

Just change the oil and you should be good.
